Our group focuses its research on enterprise architecture - a discipline that aims at the alignment, in enterprises, of the business and the IT resources in order to gain a competitive advantage. Enterprise architecture encompasses the disciplines of strategic thinking and software engineering. This expertise is of growing importance for supporting business evolution (globalization, 1 to 1 marketing - B2C, supply chain integration - B2B, outsourcing, …) and for taking advantage of new information technologies (mostly internet/intranet/extranet and component based).
Our topics of interests are:
- object-oriented system modeling: the use of models to conceptualize and construct systems (business and IT systems
- graphical modeling: the use of graphical modeling languages to support thinking
- strategic thinking: the application of modeling to business issues such as business planning
- software engineering: the application of modeling to software construction
Our goals are to acquire, formalize and disseminate the knowledge needed for the development of cost effective, state-of-the-art enterprise-wide systems. The results of our research are extensively used in our courseware and in our consulting.
