- Use of SEAM
Itecor was interested in SEAM because it was looking for a method that enables to justify the choices made by its clients in business and IT alignment.
Itecor began its involvement with SEAM in 2007 when it formed a tripartite relationship with LAMS and the utility company of the state of Geneva (SIG). The goal of this project was to industrialize SEAM for Service Level Management (SLM). Itecor created a version of SEAM for the discovery and modeling of Service Level Agreements (SLA).
Itecor then began creating a simplified (applied) version of SEAM for use by consultants. We merged the SVN and Goal-Belief diagrams by using personas and cartoon style callouts to express stakeholder expectations.
This version of SEAM, dedicated to consultants, is called SEAM by Itecor. Despite being a simplified version compared to the research version of SEAM, it is also an extension of SEAM. Indeed, it contains an explicit viewpoint widget, lacking in SEAM. A complete guide has been drafted for internal Itecor training. SEAM by Itecor was used successfully in several engagements. It has been taught to business people for several years at the annual Swiss Project Management Symposium.
An iPad App called SeamPAD was created a few years ago.
"For the last 20 plus years, I have been telling Itecor consultants that designers do not model the world as it is, but as they want to see it. I therefore immediately liked SEAM because of its epistemological foundations that enable designers to create models from different points of view. I even went as far as proposing to add an explicit viewpoint modeling element to SEAM."
